The Upper Marlboro Gators is a newly established non-profit organization youth football and cheer league making its debut in the fall of 2008. The UM Gators’ mission is to:
| • |
Provide youth
with organized competition in a safe environment |
| • |
Bring our
youth closer together through common interest
in sportsmanship and competition; |
| • |
Instill the
values of education; |
| • |
Acquaint
the players with the fundamentals of the game
rules; running, kicking, blocking, and tackling; |
| • |
Teach sportsmanship,
discipline and love of the game |
| • |
Encourage the players to maintain satisfactory and above grades in school and to emphasize the importance of keeping a proper relationship and balance between scholastic and athletic endeavors. |
We are a fundamentally based program which seeks 100% participation from all of our children. We believe that a successful season will not be judged by wins or losses, but rather by how much positive growth, leadership and athletic discipline have been fostered and received by all those involved.
Overall, we believe children who remain active in organized activities will be better students, responsible citizens and grow into responsible adults. In addition to learning the game of football and cheerleading, our children will learn responsibility, respect for authority, respect for their peers, sportsmanship, and develop courage for future life challenges. Our goal is to achieve athletic success while nourishing healthier, smarter, and happier children; while refraining from any adult compulsion for power or glory.
